The promise of designer glasses and sunglasses is simple: These unique, beautiful glasses. But as you are about the find out, the truth is much murkier and the frames they sell is undesirable.

It has been three decades since famous designer brands started producing their own glasses and sunglasses. The fanfare around their launch was that you are getting the same quality and style as you get with their cloths/bags or whatever it is they are famous for. However, when it came to glasses nearly every single brand took the same approach.

They licenced their entire manufacturing processes to the same two factories. This means the glasses for all these brands are made by the exact same people, and at time are designed by the same people (with as minor a change as changing the logo).

What is worse is that they all took the same mass-production model.

Brittle And Uncomfortable Glasses

Under the mass production model these famous designer brands worked to reduce the cost, and quality, as much as possible.

These glasses are brittle and break easily. When we used to sell them, customers used to come back multiple times because they kept breaking. And we had to fix them, or send them back to replace. This meant that our customers had to go out of their way to visit us multiple times a month, and go without eyewear for weeks at a time.

And because they are brittle we could not adjust them to our customers’ head shape and pupils. So their overall vision was compromised.

Fundamentally, glasses that cost less than $35 to produce are sold for over $500.

Not unique, not special

The mass production model means that these brands are forced to sell the glasses to as many people as possible.

The glasses and sunglasses are not unique to you, and you will see many people wear the same pair. You will have spent $500 to look like dozens of people in your locality.

How to find true designer glasses and sunglasses

There is a way to buy designer eyewear that is value for money, unique and incredibly comfortable to wear. Over the past 80 years a small, but growing, group that is determined to craft designer glasses is forming.

These are small and independent designers in Japan, Germany, Scandanivia and even in the U.S. who are passionate, talented and are determined to succeed at their craft. They are constantly pushing the boundaries of style, design and comfort  for glasses and sunglasses.

Each one of them has a unique philosophy, but each is looking to break the mould, freshen up how you look and not appeal to the masses. They design their eyewear with a unique individual, face-shape and style in mind, by design, they not meat to work for everyone. What they produce is pure art.

Durable and Beautiful Designer Frames

And to top it all off they use the most advanced techniques and the best material to craft their glasses and sunglasses. 24k gold, titanium, sliver and other high-quality material is infused into their design for a better overall product.

This means the frames you buy last longer than average and require less maintenance from us. They are also more comfortable as we are able to adjust them to fit your head shape and eyes perfectly.

We have been bringing these niche brands to Toronto for over 20 years

With small niche brands like this that do not have a massive marketing budget, it is difficult to find them. But we have been determined to bring them to our customers in Toronto.

To find these brands we have been travelling to trade shows in Paris, Milan and NYC. Most of these brands travel from all over the world to set up stall there. And we challenge ourselves to finding them from over 2000 stalls and shows.

Jaque Marie Marge: Bringing these brands to Canada

Out most successful brand that we introduced to Canada has been Jaque Marie Marge. They are a small, California-based designer and manufacturer of glasses and sunglasses. They really caught our eye for their bold and beautiful style, and quality production of frames.

We contacted them and they offered us the chance to be the first to introduce their glasses to Canada. We hosted a party, and were sold out immediately, with a long back order.
